DanCE & MOVEMENT: A Photographic EXHIBITION

Photography Exhibition

13th November to 7th December 2024

Julie Hawton is a Dartford based photographer who specialises in capturing the beauty and power of dance in a unique painterly style.

"My non-conventional and slightly later journey into photography really began when I bought my husband a camera some 8 years ago.  Having quickly realised I'd had just lost him to a new toy, I decided to join in and get my own.

Having had no real experience or academic background in photography I took a fair while just to figure out what buttons to push.  I dabbled in various genres and spent a lot of time and energy taking pictures of people, animals, trees and anything that passed in front of the lens with (as you can guess) some very mixed results!

As time progressed, I developed my own style focussing on moody portraiture, and our own slightly edgy dark look.  This worked for both of us for a long while and formed a huge part of our photography journey.

One day, by sheer chance, I fell into the world of dance. I wanted to try something different  as opposed to just capturing static dance poses.  I wanted to capture the energy and movement of dance and so mixed things up with the lighting and exposure and a little creative editing.  I've concentrated on creating painterly, slightly abstract images across a range of dance disciplines and am loving what I am creating.

I hope you enjoy my work".
